inline editor in action

The main advantages over editing this way over the traditional method is that you can see your content exactly how it will appear using all the styles and formatting of your Wordpress template, plus it’s far more convenient this way.

Please report any bugs, if you don’t tell us it how can we fix it? Please include your Wordpress version and other plugins you have installed.

Known issues

  • Only the main content can be edited. It does not allow you to edit excerpts, titles, comments or other elements yet.
  • May not work in IE6/7 or IE8 compatibility mode, update 0.6.13 attempts to resolve this issue but has not been tested on all configurations.
  • Your blog must be in UTF-8; Wordpress Admin->Settings->Reading->Encoding for pages and feed = UTF-8
  • We are aware that this plugin may not work on all configurations, so please contact us directly as we may not notice that you left a comment on Wordpress.org.

Tried using Inline Editor with WPML. If i edit the main language inline it loses the connection to other languages. If I edit any other language inline it becomes listed as a main language page.

thank you for the “Inline Editor”. I’m a experienced photographer but an absolute beginner with WP. I’m trying to build my workshops website (www.creativephotomind.com) with WP but with “Sliding door” theme the Inline Editor doesn’t work. Maybe because I’m a clumsy, but after I save the changes, everything remains like before…
Another question: do you know wich plugin could allow my WP website to be find by Google search engine?

    Thank You!

    Have a good day

Hi I’m using inline editor on a friends website
I’m trying to make it seo friendly, which means I need external javascript files.
I’ve noticed that your plugin posts some javascript on my page. I can see this when I right click and view the source in my browser.

    /* */

This doesn’t happen on my artygirl.co.uk website though?
Is there a way of easily solving this issue?

    Regards

I am trying to use your plugin, but I do not know where its functionality shows up. My blog is in UTF-8.

When I go to “Visit Site” nothing comes up. I also looked at all the items in the menu, and it is not there either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • mojoflyer says:

How can i allow “Author” or “Editor” to edit inline from the front end?

    • sraynham says:

You need to ensure that your ‘Author’ or ‘Editor’ roles have permission to edit post and edit pages.

For more information on Wordpress Role and Capabilities visit here:
      http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities
At the bottom of this page there are links to plugins that allow you to change the capabilities of your users.

      • Mojoflyer says:

My site’s “Authors” have ability to add posts. So they have capabilities to edit their own posts as per WP capabilities.
But somehow the “Edit” button of “inline editor” doesn’t appear on their submitted post when they are logged in .
It only appears when admin is logged in.

BTW, the WP “edit post” link does appear correctly for posts submitted by it’s “Author” which means the Author’s capabilities are correct.

Could this be a bug of Inline Editor? Hope you could run a quick check. Thanks.

        • sraynham says:

This is not a bug, currently the Inline Editor only gives frontend editing to users that can edit any posts and pages.

UPDATE: As of version 0.7.5, Inline Editor checks the capabilities of the individual user that’s logged in, download it here or get the upgrade via your dashboard.

  • prakash (@twitter.com/icarusprakash) says:

thanks for the plugin. everything is fine but, after editing inline, i find only ‘cancel editing’ button and there is no ’save editing’ button. am i missing something?

  • prakash (@twitter.com/icarusprakash) says:

sorry.. my previous comment was in haste. the save function is there in the tool bar.. thanks again.

  • Im glad i found you!!!! i’ll test this now

  • Karl says:

Love the idea for this plugin, but have not been able to implement successfully with my iThemes Flexx theme. Everything installs beautifully and I can see the edit button on my page view. Clicking on the edit button brings up a sharp looking editing toolbar, but I’m never actually able to access or edit text on my site. Clicking or double clicking on areas that look editable simply brings up another incidence of the toolbar.

Would love to have this working. Any suggestions?
    Best,
    Karl

    • sraynham says:

We’re happy to fix bugs when it comes to compatibility issues with other free plugin and themes, but the iThemes Flexx theme is a premium theme.

However we will create customised versions for specific Wordpress installations, please contact us for a quote.

You have your PHP errors switched on, I have made a small update and emailed it to you. For everyone else the version of Inline Editor on Wordpress.org includes this update.

  • Thank you for this AWESOME plug-in. Brilliant!

One thing I’ve noticed… When I try to edit a page that has a script in the content, inline editor won’t let me edit it.

Instead it just pulls up a page that shows me the result of that script… Does that make sense?

Ohhh… I’d love a “save” button at the bottom, too!

But really, thanks so much for a brilliant plug-in!

  • dains says:

Hi, excellent plugin! I’ve tried other inline editors, and even worked with the author of Front-End Editor a bit to try to get some of the functionality you’ve got out of the box. This one seems to be the best–in-class so far. I’ve a couple of comments for you though.

The first is about the popup telling you that the content has been saved. Since this is a front-end editing plugin, it naturally follows that we can see the changes as soon as they’re applied. So having an additional popup telling us that the plugin has done what we can clearly see has been done isn’t necessary, and the added click is annoying :(

Second, the biggest problem I’ve noticed with HTML editors is indents, both for paragraphs and for lists. Adding an indent feature to let us adjust where things have gone bad would be a great help.

Lastly, I noticed an immediate conflict with the Ajaxed Wordpress plugin (v1.28 latest) by Aaron Harun. I was testing the Embed Child Pages function (http://ajaxedwp.com/forum/awp-documentation/how-do-i-embed-a-wordpress-pages-child-pages/) and this editor kills that feature entirely.

  • Eve Zhu says:

How can I restore a post that I deleted with Inline Editor?

  • Jana says:

Hi, Thanks for the plugin that will be very helpful if I can figure out this one problem. When I edit the text and save (update), it changes the CSS formatting as in adding extra spaces above/below paragraphs, (what I call blowing-out) the formatting.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thank you very muchg for your time!
